What has happened to our sense of community?

Nobody really cares about anybody else. Although this is a very general statement, I think it is basically true. There are of course people who have given their lives to care for others, but other than that, daily life, generally for people, is about getting more for yourself and stuff anyone who gets in the way!

I, for one, know how easy it is to get sucked into 'my rights' as opposed to my responsibilities. The plain fact is that people have little or no control over their own rights, but have pretty much full control over their responsibilities.

Not to mention that we, as humans, find it pretty difficult to focus on more than one thing at a time, and therefore while out eyes are on ourselves, it is difficult to see the person next to us in their need.

I once heard quotes read out on how things aren't like they used to be. The quotes talked about people becoming rude, children becoming aggressive and such other things. The 'game' was to guess when these quotes were written. Because the language was very 'proper', I assumed that they must have been from about 50 years ago. The actual date was, I think, about 500 years ago!

This 'game' was basically highlighting that we all know that things aren't right, but blame it on the recent past - partly ignoring the far past as we are much more intelligent than the 'oldies'.
